The President of the African BeeFarmers Union, Ambassador Agim Godwin Apple, is calling on the people of Ogoja and Yala Local Government Areas in Cross River State, Nigeria to adopt the beekeeping practices from their neighboring region of Obudu/Obanliku.
According to Ambassador Godwin Apple, these areas are the most densely populated for African Wild Honey Bees. He has called on individuals in Ogoja and Yala to take up Apiculture alongside agriculture for the ongoing sustainability of the planet and human existence.
Ambassador Godwin Apple stated that the demand for cocoa and honey production is one of the highest in the beverage, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries.
Furthermore, the final waste process of honey is being melted into high-quality Beeswax, which is widely used as a waterproofing agent for wood and leather, and for strengthening threads. It is also used in village industries such as candle-making and as an ingredient in ointments, medicines, soaps, polishes, and even expensive lipsticks.
The African BeeFarmers Union President has urged the residents of Ogoja and Yala to embrace these beekeeping practices to contribute to the overall sustainability and economic growth of their communities.
