A man has been accused of trying to behead his brother with a cutlass in Ondo.

Police in Ondo State have arraigned 33-year-old Olulayo Mororoe at an Akure High Court on charges of attempting to kill his brother Daniel Mororoe with a cutlass,

The defendant, whose address has not been released, is on trial on charges of attempted murder and assault with grievous bodily harm. Ululayo is said to have committed the murder at around 9pm on October 10, 2023 at Kidimo Camp in Odayelele.

According to the police prosecutor, Folashade Adeyemi, the suspect tried to kill Daniel with a cutlass at the farm. Adeyemi Olulayo said he attacked his brother with his left hand, causing serious injuries.

According to the prosecutor , the offense contravened Sections 320 and 332 (1) of the Penal Code of Ondo State. However, the court rejected the suspect bail request

The prosecutor asked the court to remand the suspect at the Olokuta Correctional Center to await the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP). The defendant Lawyer, Israel Tivo, asked for a delay to allow him to file a statement opposing the request

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Asabi, who marched to Mororoe with other suspects last month, claimed that his uncle accused him of stealing palm fruits. “Oulayo Moyoloye from Kidimo camp tried to behead his brother Daniel Moyoloye with a sharp knife through Irele. CP said: “The suspect cut his brother’s left hand, which was protecting the cutlass.” “The suspect who was hiding at the farm was arrested a few days after the incident. The suspect accused his elder brother of stealing coconuts, which led to a heated argument between the two, and he became enraged, pulled out his cutlass, held a machete in his left hand and immediately ran away.
