The Lagos state government denies that Governor Sanwo-Olu paid his lawyers using public funds.

The Lagos State Government has denied reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu paid public money to a team of lawyers involved in an election petition.

Reacting to the claims, Gbenga Omotoso, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said the documents released by Gbadebo did not bear the logo of the state government or the signatures of officials. He also denied that the Defense Department had made any such deal.

His statement stated that

It is good for patriots to examine the finances of the Lagos State Government, but the results of such investigations must always be based on verified facts and nothing more than the truth. The deal Mr. Rhodes-Weaver referred to never happened. When the Honorable Attorney General and the Solicitor General demanded the payment, the Governor rejected the payment request on the ground that it was illegal. “For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will never embezzle public funds despite his oath.”
