Uni-Cal PGSG Presents Award of Excellence to Dr. Nte Bisong, Solicits Support for Proposed Postgraduate Lecture Block:

In a celebratory event, the Postgraduate Students’ Government (PGSG) of the University of Calabar (Uni-Cal), honoured Dr. Joseph Nte Bisong, the Deputy-Director of the National Universities Commission (NUC), with an Award of Excellence.

This prestigious accolade was in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement as the overall best Ph.D. graduand in the university’s recently concluded 36th convocation ceremony.

The award presentation ceremony, which took place in Abuja, on May 22nd, 2024, was led by Comrade Prince Obedience Abeng, President of the PGSG, University of Calabar.

In his address, Comrade Abeng praised Dr. Bisong for his academic prowess and dedication, highlighting that his exceptional performance serves as an inspiration to many postgraduate students.

“Dr. Bisong has set a remarkable example for all of us. His dedication and hard work underscore the values we strive to uphold within the postgraduate community,” Abeng stated.

Dr. Bisong, who was visibly moved by the honor, expressed his gratitude to the PGSG and the University of Calabar.

“It is a profound privilege to be recognized in this manner. This award is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective effort of my mentors, colleagues, and family who have supported me throughout this journey,” he said.

The event also provided a platform for the PGSG to bring attention to an important initiative – the construction of a new Postgraduate Lecture Block. Comrade Abeng seized the opportunity to solicit support for this vital project, which aims to enhance the learning environment and resources available to postgraduate students at the university.

“The proposed Postgraduate Lecture Block is an essential development that will improve our academic infrastructure. We are calling on all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and alumni, to support this project,” he explained.

In his remarks, Dr. Bisong also reiterated the importance of supporting educational projects like the Postgraduate Lecture Block, “Investing in education is investing in the future.”

The proposed Postgraduate Lecture Block is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility that will address the growing needs of the university’s postgraduate population. It is expected to include modern lecture halls, seminar rooms, and research facilities, designed to provide a conducive learning and research environment.

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including staff of the National Universities Commission (NUC), step-aside PGSG President, Bernard Edet Ph.D, Serjeant-at-Arms of the 10th Senate of PGSG, Comrade Odey Felix, and Ubi Onen Esq, member of the PGSG Conclave, reflecting the importance of academic excellence and the collective effort required to support and sustain educational advancements.
